As an owner-managed, medium-sized company, we attach particular importance to a solid foundation and stable growth. In recent years, we have thus been able to continuously increase our sales and employee numbers without losing sight of our values and principles. This pays off: We are just as happy about our satisfied customers as we are about our happy employees – and we are convinced that one is not possible without the other.



With Managing Director Karsten Hofmann, gat has remained what it was more than 30 years ago – a hands-on company in the best sense of the word. Everyone benefits from the down-to-earth and at the same time far-sighted management policy: Customers appreciate the fast decision-making processes and the unbureaucratic, direct interaction with each other, which facilitates project handling. Employees, on the other hand, also value the flat hierarchies, opportunities for further development and family-friendly working conditions. The company also works closely with its strategic partners on an equal footing in order to develop the optimum solution for each individual order.

Our History

  • 2022

    Steffen Wöllner takes over the management of our branch "Center" as successor to Ulrich Schneider, who has left the company.

  • 2021

    Ulrich Schneider is taking well-deserved retirement at the end of 2021 after more than 20 successful years. Karsten Hofmann will reliably continue to lead gat as managing director and shareholder.

  • 2020

    The Corona pandemic hits gat. With a strong cohesion, a lot of consideration and quick action, we can keep the business running! Our industry diversity secures the jobs of our colleagues and ensures that most of our customers' projects continue to be successfully realized.

  • 2017 - 2019

    We are expanding again! With over 650 sqm of new manufacturing space and a test bay, extensive expansion work is being carried out and completed at our branch "North".

  • 2016

    We realize our 100th safety project! gat now has a total of five trainees at the Geesthacht and Hartmannsdorf branches.

  • 2013

    25 years of gat! We celebrate our anniversary with customers, suppliers and companions, our employees and their families.

    Erhardt Gallert retires at the end of the year. Ulrich Schneider takes over as head of branch "Center".

  • 2011

    Branch "East" will double its office and workshop space by 2012.

  • 2006

    We are now offering apprenticeships to become "Electronics Technicians for Industrial Engineering".

  • 2005

    We are expanding at branch "North": We are creating over 600 square meters of additional space for production and factory acceptance testing.

  • 2002

    Karsten Hofmann succeeds the retiring Bernd Hofmann as shareholder, managing director and head of branch "North".

  • 1999

    Reinhold Schneider retires at the age of 65, Erhard Gallert and Ulrich Schneider join the management.

  • 1997

    We receive certification according to DIN EN ISO 9001 and SCC: A big step towards securing quality, occupational safety and process flows. In the meantime, we already count 83 employees.

  • 1990

    After reunification, we open our branch "East" in Chemnitz, initially with 9 employees. The branch "North" also expands: 360 square meters of office space and 280 square meters of workshop space are newly occupied in Geesthacht.

  • 1988

    In Lörrach, the branch "South" opens for business – we already have 23 employees.

  • 1987

    Bernd Hofmann and Reinhold Schneider found gat GmbH with branches in the north (Schwarzenbek) and the center of Germany (Schwalbach). Since 1990, the northern branch has been located in Geesthacht.

Since the company was founded, we at gat have been able to record a stable upward trend in terms of sales – through our corporate strategy, we work every day to ensure that this remains the case.

Our departments

Subsidiary SMR

SMR GmbH offers consulting and technical support for the solution and realization of tasks in the field of industrial measurement technology. Due to the proximity to gat, even complex projects in the field of process automation can be handled holistically and comprehensively.

SMR GmbH is an independent sales and service office of the companies Emerson Process Management GmbH & Co. OHG (Weßling/Langenfeld) and Christian Bollin Armaturenfabrik GmbH (Oberursel) and has been operating in Geesthacht as part of the gat group since January 1995.
